The Protein Works Naked Protein Popcorn Review
There is a battle raging.
In the shadows, in the darkness, right under humanity’s nose.
It is a bitter war fought between supplement companies as they try to turn the most mundane of everyday snacks into protein-enriched gains tools.
The latest blow to be landed comes from the secret underground bunker of The Protein Works (Runcorn).
This weapon, when used properly, could land a devastating blow to their bitter rivals and end this war.
Or it could be a steaming pile of extraneous experimentation.
Let’s see which it is…
Popcorn is undergoing a sort of Renaissance right now.
Long gone are the days where the only place you’d find it was either in those shitty microwave sachets or stuck to your shoes upon entering the cinema.
(You’d think the £10 admission fee would buy you some semblance of hygiene – frankly the guys in Sierra Leon live in less squalor.)
Now you can get popcorn in almost any flavour, but I want mine to taste of gains, and, until now, this has not been possible.
Note: gains would probably taste of sweat and protein farts – TPW please don’t try and harness this concoction as a new flavour.
Anyway, Naked Protein Popcorn is made with premium grade whey protein isolate, organic popcorn, organic coconut oil and stevia extract to create an awesomely high-spec protein snack.
And, as always with TPW, this product is gloriously free from additives and other artificial crap.
You can find more detailed ingredient info by clicking here.
Popcorn has always been a solid, low fat snack (unless slathered in butter), but pretty much 100% carb.
With Naked Protein Popcorn, The Protein Works have really thrown a spanner amongst the pigeons (actually still works as a metaphor).
The stats per 100g are:
|Carbs (of which sugar)||55g (0.7g)|
|Fat (of which saturates)||13g (9.5g)|
I reckon these macros will be pretty POPular with a lot of you guys…
But seriously, great numbers, as we’ve come to expect from TPW.
Taste & Texture
Naked Protein Popcorn currently comes in two flavours: ‘Sweet & Salty’ and ‘Marbled Chocolate’.
I had the latter.
We all know what popcorn’s like textually, and these are no different.
But it was slightly strange, essentially it seems to be a load of powder thrown onto the popcorn in the hope that some of it will stick.
Unfortunately a lot of the powder didn’t so it simply falls to the bottom.
A quick shake every few mouthfuls solves this problem but ideally you don’t want to have to do this.
I’ve read a few reviews about the sweet and salty flavour and I think this sounds much better textually and flavourly (is that a word?).
Value for Money
I haven’t seen this product elsewhere so value for money is hard to pinpoint.
A 100g tub will set you back £3.99 – which based on the amount of time it takes to eat (a surprisingly long time) I would say is fairly decent value for money.
It’s certainly cheaper than the shite you get from the usurious fat cats at Cineworld – and with added muscle of course.
I’m personally not a big popcorn fan in general but if you’re looking for another way to supplement your diet with high-quality protein and satisfy your sweet tooth at the same time, then Naked Protein Popcorn from TPWs is an eminently attractive proposition.
Once again The Protein Works have provided the paying public with a solid, innovative and nutritious product.
